Banksia: The Torch's CONFINED 17 Exhibition & Creative Pathways

The Torch CEO and Martu/Darlot woman Susannah Day and Nurungga man and artist Mickymoo joined Vanessa Morris on Banksia to talk about Confined 17 the seventeenth annual exhibition showcasing over 420 works by First Nations artists with lived experience of incarceration in Victoria.

The exhibition centres the artists’ voices through a large-scale video presentation showcasing interviews captured on Country and within the artist’s homes. Alongside an immersive collection of 500+ artworks extend throughout the gallery addressing themes of kinship, healing, ancestral stories and life journeys.

Mickeymoo shared reflections around the positive pathways and community he has been connected since connecting with The Torch.

Since 2011, the Torch's Statewide Indigenous Arts In Prisons and Community Program has provided art, cultural and arts industry support to First Nations artists. The Torch assists participants to reconnect with culture and earn income from through art, with 100% of the artwork price going directly to the artist.

Confined 17 is currently on at Glen Eira City Council Gallery, Caulfield until 14 June.
