Banksia: Jahkarli Felicitas Romanis on Channels through NGV's FUTURE COUNTRY

Proud Pitta Pitta woman and artist Jahkarli Felicitas Romanis joined Vanessa Morris on Banksia to talk about new photographic work Channels presented through the NGV's FUTURE COUNTRY exhibition.

As a continuation of her ongoing project (Dis)connected to Country, Jakahrli spoke about how the work challenges ideas of how photographic works and exhibitions within institutes should be engaged with through inviting people to walk on the work originally created on Pitta Pitta Country.

Jahkarli's arts practice is inextricably intertwined with her identity as a Pitta Pitta woman and aims to subvert and disrupt colonial approaches to image making and photography. Romanis’ research and arts practice is heavily informed by her family histories and photographic archives.

Presented through FUTURE COUNTRY alongside works from seven other First Nations artists from across the continent - this is the second iteration of the Country Road + NGV First Nations Commissions initiative which paired Felicitas with Wiradjuri Artist presenting a unique opportunity to connect and share intergenerational knowledge, and foster artistic and professional growth.
