Banksia: ENOKi on exhibition Muluna and Creative Expression
Dja Dja Wurrung, Yorta Yorta multi-media artist ENOKi joined Vanessa Morris on Banksia to discuss new solo exhibition Muluna - muluna meaning spirit in Yorta Yorta.
Presenting 34 new works - Muluna marks ENOKi's biggest body of work so far - it uncovers the intersections between mulana in culture and one’s own spirituality, and the lived experience of queer Blakness within so-called ‘Australia’.
Exploring the meaning of mulana/spirit within today’s contemporary context, the works interrogate what this looks like through ENOKi’s creative practice, which draws inspiration from pop culture – comic books, vintage animation, renaissance era paintings and the flora and fauna of Country.
Through Muluna ENOKi also uses language within work names as a way to encourage leaning and further education to its audience.
ENOKi also spoke about recent projects including a projection on the Sydney Opera House, the 2026 Recklink Community Cup poster, work included in West Space's Labour of Love fundraiser until 14 May and upcoming collab with Gammin Threads.
Muluna is at Counihan Gallery until 19 July
ENOKi will have work presented through exhibition Camp Stove at Craft Vic from 4 July
