Showbiz! is the ninth solo album from NYC-based rapper MIKE. It arrives as one of two projects the prolific 26-year-old artist has planned for 2025 and continues the creative momentum that's defined his output since his 2015 debut.
The 24-track collection shows MIKE's signature production style under his dj blackpower alias, combining pitched soul samples and lounge music records. These foundations blend with ambient electronics, particularly on tracks like 'Da Roc' and 'Spun,' where the influence of artists like Boards of Canada emerges through atmospheric textures and electronic elements.
While MIKE handles much of the production, the album also features collaborative work with producers Harrison from SURF GANG, Anysia Kym, ShunGu, and Salami Rose Joe Louis, amongst others. The musical arrangements span various styles, from the bebop-influenced 'The weight (2k20)' to the R&B-tinged 'Miss U' featuring vocalist duendita - one of only two guest appearances on the record alongside 454.
Throughout Showbiz!, MIKE's distinctive flow complements the tapestry of sounds. His lyrics explore touring and the realities of life as an artist. 'The prize isn't much, but the price is abundant,' MIKE reflects on 'artist of the century,' a theme of perseverance that runs through the album.
