III is the first album in 10 years from Thai multi-generational psychedelic band Khun Narin Electric Phin Band, out now on Innovative Leisure.
Hailing from rural Thailand, Khun Narin Electric Phin Band has a membership constantly in flux that spans multiple generations, from high school kids to members into their 60s, playing a style of music called phin prayuk, an ecstatic and trance-like form of psychedelic music centred around the phin, a traditional Thai lute.
Formed initially as a community band to mark celebratory occasions like weddings and village parades, the band found themselves gaining broader recognition when a 2013 YouTube clip of them playing went viral leading them to be signed by LA label Innovative Leisure.
Their latest album has been 10 years in the making and is their first ever recorded inside a professional studio, produced by Tommy Brenneck (Charles Bradley, Sharon Jones, The Budos Band). The album captures the band's unique sound with greater clarity, whilst maintaining the exhilarating spirit that has come to define the group's live sets.
