Distance is the debut solo album from Jess Cornelius, also well known for her music released under Teeth & Tongue. New Zealand born Cornelius began writing for this record after making the move from Melbourne to Los Angeles. As we travel through the tracklist we encounter the artist's singular songwriting skill, hearing tones and textures from country, soul, Americana, rock and roll and electronic pop. The album title may hint at physical separations, but these songs also address deeper divides: between the expectations of others and those of the individual on their own journey. In her lyrics Cornelius considers all forms of disconnection, and the ways we navigate the need for solitude and surrender in our closest relationships.
