DIIV started life as the project of Zachary Cole Smith, also a member of atmospheric rock ensemble Beach Fossils, and the strengths of his previous work are clearly evident on this debut record. Playing with elements of 80s shoegaze, dream pop, and hypnotic rock rhythms, 'Oshin' is a striking synthesis of guitar melodies and textured sounds.
