Join us at Mamma Chen’s for a conference of the strange, featuring four up-and-coming bands from Melbourne’s progressive and experimental scene.
Soulfish are an emerging musical force, a multi-instrumentalist duo combining live sound manipulation with songcraft to create strange, fragile and haunting music that verges on the surreal.
They are followed by She Weaves Grotesqueries. Blending gothic, progressive rock sensibilities with elements of metal, ambient, and electronica, this six-piece ensemble conjures atmospheres drawing from folkloric storytelling, filtered through the amplified sonics of modern times.
The Omega Point are an art & music collective exploring the traces of humanity inside our accelerating technological culture. Through myth creation, ritual, song and movement, they conjure a wild brand of apocalyptic art music. Expect crystalline beauty, dark soundscapes, pulsing beats and wild sonic catharses.
Finally, the night comes to a close with the debut headline performance of One Way Out, those future titans of heavy prog. Featuring blistering grooves, cascading guitar loops, galaxy-sized textures and live improvisation (which even usually goes pretty well, honest!), this dynamic duo promises to bring the proceedings to a rapturous conclusion.
Mamma Chen’s acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and the Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation, the true owners of the land that we live and operate on. We would like to pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
