‘Universally Repaired’ is a community artwork co-created by multi-disciplinary artist Rachel Wood and members of the community in Boroondara.

Part art installation, part museum artefact, Universally Repaired is Wood’s impression of the ozone layer. Installed at Hawthorn Arts Centre from October 2, the large-scale work is a collection of smaller art pieces made only with upcycled materials by community members through workshops, social circles, and classrooms.

“This effort symbolises our collective need to unite as a community to drive transformation in the clothing and textile industry.” Rachel Wood, artist.

The installation highlights fast fashion’s impact on our planet as the second-largest contributor to our carbon footprint and its devastating implications for our environment.

The ‘Universally Repaired’ artwork is a part of the ‘Make, Mend, Do: Crafting a circular economy’ program, providing the skills and knowledge needed to keep our wardrobe and other everyday materials from ending up in landfill.
