Funk in the Trunk is set to blow the roof of the basment! (figure of speech folks!) For one night only Ultravibralux, Mount Kujo & Conte Milano come together for what will be an underground party house of funky voodoo vibes!
Headliners Ultravibralux return to their spiritual birth place, the streets of St kilda with their their bold essoteric sounds. Their music is a unique cocktail of cinematic psychedelic funk that takes cues from greats like the JB’s, Frank Zappa, Funkadelic, Lalo Schifrin, Mulatu Astake, Herbie & Miles. Fueled with the classic tones and of valve-soaked sounds of 60s & 70s amplification Ultravibralux combine sophisticated tight horn arrangements, heavy hitting baselines and deep grooves. They will be performing songs from their first full length album ‘Secret Level’ recently launched to a packed audience at the Workers Club in Fitzroy.
Mount Kujo could be described as an 'afrobeat orchestra' but their compositions and style have matured far beyond this to include elements of latin-rock, spiritual jazz and even drum ‘n bass. The group has embraced the true spirit of being a musical collective: a living, breathing unit adapting quickly to its surroundings like a cameleon. This heavy weight juganaught has a comanding presence enhanced by their unconfined stage style.
Conte Milano is primed to open the evening. Armed with a portable setup of synthesizers, electric guitars and vintage effect pedals, Conte explores a variety of styles from organic house to downtempo with funky guitars, warm analogue synths and singing guitar solos.
With an extensive touring record in Europe and Australia, Conte is takes the audience on an unforgettable journey around the globe. Visiting places of dreamy melodies, happy rhythms and intriguing sounds that build bridges between electronic and instrumental music.
This show of local talent it testoment to why melbourne is known as music capital of Australia. Not to be missed.
