During the summer of 1992 Lars Ulrich and Slash held a press conference announcing the “They Said It Would Never Happen” Tour (Later referred to as the Riot Festival).

This co-headlined tour featured the two biggest bands in the world at the time, Guns’n’Roses and Metallica, during their Use Your Illusions and Wherever We May Roam tours respectively.

This now infamous 26 date North America and Canada tour also featured the up and coming band Faith No More as the opening act and was the epicentre of the 1992 Montreal Riot where Guns’n’Roses lead singer Axl Rose left the venue not returning after repeatedly throughout the tour being up to 2 hours late to take the stage infuriating fans and the other bands.

At one show it also saw James Hetfield (Metallica singer / guitarist) receiving 3rd degree burns on stage after a pyrotechnic incident as well as being the point in time where both Faith No More (who left the tour early) and Metallica swore off ever playing with Guns’n’Roses again ‘if the tour ever ended’
