The Tonalists are a Soul Blues trio from Melbourne, featuring Hammond Organ, Guitar, Lap Steel and Piano over swamp boogie meets Memphis soul rhythms. The line up includes Mick Coll on keyboards and vocals, Jason Kain on guitars, Nigel Wright on drums and vocals, with Mick and Jason sharing bass duties on their respective instruments.

The Tonalists sound is faithful to their retro roots in tone and rhythm, while creatively interpreting the arrangements to fit their trio format across a varied reportoire of vocals and intrumentals. Their ever changing setlist is an celebration of blues in many of its forms, including great tunes by the likes of Lou Donaldson, Leon Russell, Gill Scott-Heron, Billy Preston to name a few, plus a growing list of originals inspired by such masters. Formed in 2019, The Tonalists roots go back to the 1990’s when Mick, Jason and Nigel played together in Long Black Limousine, establishing a solid reference point in New Orleans style funk and instrumental soul, from which to now wander into the swampy mists of “soul blues, with a touch of psychadelia…”
