Naarm/Melbourne based artist, producer and Gamilaroi man The Terrifying Lows is proud to announce the release of his new single ‘Love is a Weapon’. A powerful, emotionally charged track that speaks to the realities of psychological abuse in relationships. Written from the perspective of a gaslighting partner, this latest offering explores themes of manipulation and control through its venomous lyrics and striking instrumentation.
Produced, performed and recorded by Millott himself at his home studio in Melbourne, ‘Love is a Weapon’ is a testament to his dedication to creating a unique sound that blends elements of alternative rock with 90s electronica. Grinding bass and a dynamic vocal performance by Millott sit atop a hypnotic drum loop and evoke nostalgic elements of seminal acts from the golden age of alternative music such as UNKLE, The Stone Roses, and Sneaker Pimps whilst maintaining the distinctive, melancholic sound of The Terrifying Lows.
The single follows hot on the heels of previous releases such as ‘Blackout’, the energetic first single from upcoming LP ‘Into the Dark Divide’ which debuted following a radio interview on Triple J’s all Indigenous segment Blakout and The Terrifying Lows’ debut self-titled LP which helped Millott achieve a top 40 placement in the prestigious Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition, as well a place in Mushroom’s inaugural First Nations Pathways Program, and a string of support slots for Australian music greats such as Dan Sultan, Richard Clapton, Hayley Mary (Jezabels) and Cam Muncey (Jet).
With more new music releases planned for 2023, 'Love is a Weapon' provides fans with yet another glimpse into what we can expect from The Terrifying Lows over the coming months.
The Terrifying Lows will be performing at the Gaso Upstairs Friday 23rd June with support from Kaitlin Keegan, Moze, and Felix Leunig.
