Formed in Collingwood in 1990, The Sharp quickly built a  devoted live following with their electrifying performances  and signature high-energy sound.

The three-piece – Charlie  Rooke (guitar/vocals), Allan Catlin (double bass/vocals), and  Piet Collins (drums) – made waves with their independent  single Love Your Head, earning strong support from Triple R and PBS.

It wasn’t long before Triple J got on board, leading to   a record deal with Warner Music. Their debut album,  This Is The Sharp, went gold, catapulting the band to  national fame with ARIA nominations, magazine  covers, and appearances on nearly every major TV  and radio show in Australia. Even the hit comedy  program The Late Show paid tribute, parodying their  song Scratch My Back as Skivvies Are Back,  referencing the now-iconic black skivvies the band  had adopted.

Following relentless touring, The Sharp returned to the studio for their second album, Sonic  Tripod, teaming up with American producer Rick Will (Ziggy Marley, Diesel). A whirlwind tour  across Europe and the U.S. followed, but the relentless pace eventually took its toll. Wanting  to go out on a high, the band called time in 1995, releasing Single File, a collection of their  greatest hits, and saying farewell with the Thank You Good Night tour – playing to packed  houses nationwide.

For years, fans have wondered: Will The Sharp ever return? Now, the answer is YES.  Three decades after This Is The Sharp first hit the shelves, The Sharp is back – recharged,  reinvigorated, and ready to rock once more. While original bassist/vocalist Allan Catlin has  stepped away for personal reasons, the void is more than capably filled by Scott Owen of  The Living End. It’s a full-circle moment for Scott, who, as a young musician, snuck into  Sharp gigs, dreaming of one day being in a band like them. Adding even more firepower to  the lineup is powerhouse vocalist Louie Lee Feltrin.

Released in 2025, the four-track EP – 4 – features the songs, Enemies, Skinny Dog, Tonight  and a bonus live track, Scratch My Back!

The Sharp – with special guests powerhouse trio Assassins and the rockin’  House of El – will be at Cherry Bar on Friday 1 May. Tickets are $13 +BF  (presale) $15 at the door.
