The Orbweavers release new single ‘When it Rains in Broken Hill’ with a Saturday afternoon launch at Brunswick Ballroom as part of the ALWAYS LIVE BALLROOM MIXTAPE series. This will be a seated show, with full band, featuring songs from their forthcoming album ‘New Moon / Silver Moon’, out on Mistletone in 2024.

‘When it Rains in Broken Hill’ is the first single from The Orbweavers’ forthcoming album ‘New Moon / Silver Moon’. It was written during an arts residency in Far West NSW on Wilyakali and Barkindji Country in late 2022, responding to the beautiful desert flowers that arrive with spring rains, Broken Hill’s corrugated iron buildings, extensive laneways, and stories of distance and yearning.

The Orbweavers are Marita Dyson and Stuart Flanagan, multidisciplinary artists working in songwriting, music, performance and visual art, based in Narrm / Melbourne, on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people. They have released 3 studio albums (‘Loom’ garnering RRR and ‘Deep Leads’ PBS Album of the Week), 11 singles, created commissioned works and soundtracks for cultural institutions, ABCTV and radio, and performed at festivals across the country. Their creative work often focuses on place, and seeks to more deeply understand and respond to the histories and ongoing impacts of colonisation and industrialisation on waterways and ecosystems.

“Their incredibly hushed and beautiful songs hang in a mysterious air where spooky and pretty are kindred spirits and here go deep in search of what they call the ‘buried and hidden things’ – things surrounding us that we may not see but undoubtedly, unconsciously, feel” – 2SER BEST NEW MUSIC

With very special guests:

The Orbweavers will be joined by Barkandji multidisciplinary artist, writer, researcher and storyteller -  Zena Cumpston - who will be speaking.

Opening the matinee will be Brisbane/Meanjin based musician Andrew Tuttle bringing a set of dreamy live banjo and electronic compositions.
