After sell-out shows across London, New York and Melbourne, the Sophia Club returns once again to take audiences on an immersive journey of ideas, conversation and performance.

The meaning of time

Time is pervasive, but does it really exist? What’s more, our own human experience of time doesn’t seem to match up with physics. How do we reconcile the two? Does time flow? Or is this just an illusion? And how do we think about ourselves as time-dwelling beings – can we be kinder to our future selves and regret less about our past? This evening’s conversation and performance allow us to make the familiar strange, and the strange familiar, as we delve into the mysteries of time.

Join philosopher Kristie Miller and Aeon Media’s editorial director Brigid Hains in this special evening of metaphysical exploration with musician James Rushford and dancer/choreographer Lilian Steiner

ABOUT SOPHIA CLUB

Everyone has a stake in philosophy; its vitality can be drawn out and re-energised through conversation, with each other, and the arts. The Sophia Club creates a space for people to come together, ponder big questions, encounter new perspectives, and appreciate the rich connections between thought, emotions and artistic expression.

We call this space Live Philosophy.

Previous Sophia Club artists include Lior, Mindy Meng Wang, John Zorn and JACK Quartet, Kit Downes and Joseph Tawadros. Our speakers have included Simon Critchley, Lea Ypi, Edith Hall, Michael-Shawn Fletcher and Manvir Singh.

The Sophia Club is the latest venture from Aeon Media, the publisher of Aeon and Psyche magazines. To be the first to hear about our event program, follow us on Instagram @sophiaclub_live and sign up to our newsletter at sophiaclub.co.

Our events are produced on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Woiworung language group of the Kulin Nation, and we respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians. We value the knowledge traditions and rich practice of philosophy among Aboriginal and and Torres Strait Islander communities in Australia, and all First Nations peoples around the world.
