Leading her newly-formed, Narrm based ensemble, The Maddie Browne Quintet (The MBQ), Maddie Browne is an up-and-coming voice on the jazz scene. Bringing big band influences to a small group instrumentation, her unique combination of instruments takes the explorative nature of improvisation to a whole new level. Relying only on acoustic bass, drums, trombone, saxophone and voice, the Maddie Browne Quintet will transport you to a new world of original compositions, through the MBQ’s debut album ‘The Method & The Madness’.
The compositions on this album draw upon personal experiences with mental health, and the MBQ aims to bring awareness to mental health by hosting their album launch on R U OK? Day, September 11 2025, at Brunswick Artists Bar.
They will be joined by the amazing Ashling O’Trio and Jude Quintet, and all profits from this gig will be donated to the R U OK? Foundation. The Maddie Browne Quintet are also the 2025 recipients of the Monash University Vice Chancellor’s Ensemble Leadership Scholarship, which is given to an ensemble that is dedicated not only to ensemble development, but community engagement.
The MBQ demonstrate this through their music, and their commitment to building a community, not just an audience. So come along to Brunswick Artists Bar, 8pm September 11, bring a friend or two, enjoy a fun night of music and celebrations at the MBQ ‘The Method & The Madness’ album launch!
