The Backyard Banjo Club is a four-piece trad-jazz/bluegrass bonanza. Think Tom Waits meets Django Reinhardt and plays a jazz cover of a Radiohead tune. High energy up-tempo jazz and the occasional sultry ballad, good times guaranteed.
CJ Stranger heads to the Drunken Poet on the 29th of June for night of story-telling song craft, authentic humorous lyrics and a constantly searching guitar style. CJ hails from Darug Country, Blue Mountains NSW. His songs connect with people through everyday experiences, observations and struggles as well as images of the Australian landscape. Whilst his solo sets sit firmly in the folk genre with acoustic guitars, resonators and banjo, his sound also has a large dollop of indie grunge grit, further realised with the full band. Stranger is not afraid to use fx to push the sonic possibilities of the instruments. CJ will be joined by his brother Nick Henderson of the ‘Good Behaviours’ on banjo for this show.
