Ted has more than 60 years experience as a jazz pianist. Until 2015, he contributed in a minor role to Jazz Studies at the Elder Conservatorium in Adelaide. Originally from Adelaide, he worked in Melbourne as pianist at “The Embers” (1960-61), where he accompanied a number of American visitors, including Mel Torme and Buddy Rich, first in Frank Smith’s quartet and subsequently as band leader.

During the mid 60s he worked in Europe and England in various groups, including accompanist to Louis Bonnet (aka Matt Flinders). Beyond 1973 his music activities have been part-time. He had long standing as pianist in Adelaide band "Schmoe and Co." but has led his own bands at Bondi, Montsalvat, Wangarratta and Adelaide jazz festivals and at jazz venues in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Adelaide.

In 1992 he was pianist in the performance of “Nexus”, by Don Banks, presented by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra under the conductor David Porcelijn. During the 1980s and 90s he played regularly for the Jazz Action Society behind many American jazz musicians who visited Adelaide, including Phil Woods, Mark Murphy, Milt Jackson, Red Rodney, Red Hollaway, Richie Cole, Warren Vache, Al Cohn, Urbie Green, Herb Ellis, Joe Newman, Plas Johnson, Junior Cook, Johnny Griffen, Scott Hamilton, Emily Remler, Peter Leitch, Sheila Jordan, and Lee Konitz.
