Suzannah Espie

Music has always been an integral part of Suzannah Espie's life. Growing up in Fremantle WA, her dad worked in music management and she fell asleep most nights to the sound of her mum playing the piano. She's been writing songs and singing in bands since her teens, moving to Melbourne at the age of 18. Five albums with the sweet harmonies of alt-country outfit GIT, which formed in 1997, and subsequent solo albums have garnered her praise as one of the matriarchs of Australian songwriting and a stalwart of the Melbourne Americana scene.

Git, an all girl country trio who wrote original songs, toured Australia and the US extensively as well as holding years long residencies in bars in Melbourne. As Git came to an end she embarked on a solo career and has released 4 highly acclaimed albums, including the most recent Mother’s Not Feeling Herself Today, a concept album about the trials and tribulations of motherhood.

As a self-managed artist Suzannah has garnered critical acclaim for her work, earning her a Vic Music Awards nomination for best folk album in 2016, Port Fairy Folk Festivals Artist of the Year in 2013, Rhythm Magazine’s Album of the Year and The Age EG’s Top 15 albums of the year for her album Sea of Lights. She has produced her own solo albums as well as albums for other artists. She is currently a member of The Cartridge Family who are a comedy country band who play regularly in bars in Melbourne.

aeriqah

Singapore and Melbourne-based artist, aeriqah, describes herself as a singer/storytelling-songwriter in a post-genre world. Though if anyone asks, indie-folk with some influence of pop and musical theatre. A storyteller at heart, aeriqah’s songwriting is guided by her most sacred experiences.

Her writing explores the complexities of mental health, heartbreak and letting go. She documents lessons in learning to be kinder to herself and extends that to her listeners. The brutally honest lyrics and sentimental nature of aeriqah’s songs takes influence from the music of Lizzy McAlpine, Leith Ross and Christian Lee Hutson.
