Rosie Westbrook is a contemporary composer, multi-instrumentalist and performer and is launching her new album Always the Sea at George Lane.
Rosie is renowned for creating music that is hauntingly evocative, spacious and inherently cinematic. Classically trained in guitar and double bass, Rosie has been the go-to bassist for countless contemporary music artists.
For the official album launch at George Lane, Rosie (on guitar and double bass) will be joined by special guests including John Phillips, renowned for the incandescent guitar sounds of Australian band Not Drowning, Waving; Sean Kelly, frontman and guitarist of the legendary Models; Kaye-Louise Patterson on piano; Tamara Murphy on bass guitar and Ashley Davies on drums and groove. Rosie will also be joined by Irine Vela (Cretan Laouto and Oud) and Kelly Dowall (clarinet and ney). Irine Vela a longstanding Melbourne composer and theatre maker will perform tunes and improvisations from the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balkans with Kelly Dowall.
With New Orleans swagger, a large cup of soul, a spoonful of blues, and a dash of jazz noir, Steve Boyd's Rum Reverie hoots and hollers. Imagine Tom Waits meeting Hound Dog Taylor in Bourbon St, New Orleans and you're getting close. The sound is heartfelt and raw, the influences primal and instinctive.
Steve Boyd’s Rum Reverie is essentially the brainchild of Paul Fiddes and Steve Boyd. With a wealth of creative experience, their respective pasts intertwine in the music of the band. Not just collaborators but life-long friends (and former Steve Boyd & The Preachers bandmates), the project was conceived over many late nights of shared musings and listening to old vinyl records.
