For 12 nights, RISING turns up the volume on the music and movement that shapes Melbourne. Poetry is in the party. Distortion in the speakers. Sneakers on the ballroom floor. Art steps into its power and the voiceless form a chorus.
For Day Tripper, catch Kae Tempest, Chanel Beads, The Congos, Sorry, Kahil El’zabar, Saul Williams and more. At the Town Hall for headline shows, there’s Saint Levant, Daniel Avery, and Cate Le Bon. The inaugural Australian Dance Biennale leaps into RISING with a new program showcasing the strength and diversity of Australian and international dance, and dance classes in the Flinders Street Station Ballroom. And coming to Australia, Europe’s hottest choreographer Florentina Holzinger premieres her follow up to TANZ, A Year Without Summer, New York’s masked Narcissister turns the Substation into a giant mouse trap, and Pulitzer-prize winner Raven Chacon premiere of a voiceless choir at St Paul’s Cathedral.
RISING across the city—upstairs and underground—27 May to 8 June.
