The stars and highways align with a very special collaborative evening of two of Australia’s most adventurous and melodic indie-pop artists. Melbourne artist Phia and Canberra-based Pheno share a love of D.I.Y pop making, live-looping, and Ph Ph phonics!

A live-looping frenzy” (Artrocker Mag UK), Phia creates a truly genre-defying experience right before your eyes. Looping her African kalimba to create mesmerizing melodic hooks, she layers beat-boxing, hand claps and lush vocals, weaving together a sonic palate that is part indie-folk, part art-pop, yet uniquely Phia. Her latest release “The Woman Who Counted The Stars” EP was described as “a cosmic experience buzzing with sonic energy” (Happy Mag) and “Flowing from […] minimal loops to stadium-scaled grandeur” by Rolling Stone Magazine (Australia).

Pheno (pronounced fee-no) released her debut EP Dragon Year in May 2017 as part of VIVID festival and was lauded by Happy Mag as “...giving Australia the art-pop injection it deserves”.
Her live show features scorching electric guitar, blissful three part vocals, and a Stranger Things world of synths and samples. Pheno (born Jess Green) brings to the stage her unique “Art-Pop with a demented jazz bent” genre, and weaves stories of life -just beginning, from under the sea and calling to other worlds. ‘Green’s voice is the expressive force – sometimes screaming, sometimes a whisperHayden Fritzlaff, BMA Magazine.

Both artists are appearing with their bands and promise a magnetic night full of vivid pop sensibilities, amongst a dramatic rhythmic landscape filled with colour and light.

Support comes from cult experimental pop artist Alyx Dennison, who cut her teeth a decade ago on award-winning duo kyü, which saw kudos from the pop, art and classical worlds. In 2015 Alyx released her solo debut album, praised by The Guardian’s Kate Hennessy for her “...ability to take pain to the loom and spin it into pure light”. For this show, Alyx will be road testing brand new material for an upcoming second album
