Paper Jane

Paper Jane the hard working, deeply sinful alt country rock band play the Lomond Hotel Saturday April 19. Some describe Paper Jane as the “sumptuous Chinese meal” of Melbourne Americana.

Special guest Doggerel frontman Kier Stevens with the guttural grit and spicy steel guitar. Two sets of exceptional roots music from 9pm. Theirs are songs of Australian stories & life beyond the happy ending. Singer songwriter Buck Edwards has a power-house twin turbo vocal range that leaves his audience wanting for nothing. Dom Redfern, the band’s bass playing Dalai Llama holds it all together with our new drummer Michaela Burke, wearing her smart- arse grin and described by audiences as a pocket rocket for her crisp and muscular playing. Scotty ‘Crying in the streets’ Jansen, a gypsy fiddle genius completes the line up.

Unearthed in 2013 following their debut. Shortlisted for best regional act in the 2022 Music Vic Awards after the release of their second LP ‘Across the Reservoir’. Paper Jane leaves the sounds exposed for the listener, joyous & evocative. Musical highs and lows that command attention and move you to your core.

Kier Steven

Nestled halfway between the blues rock bombast of Ash Grunwald and the genre-mixing folk-roots wizardry of Jeff Lang, Australian steel guitarist KIER STEVENS knits together a raucous weave of hurtful hollering and gutsy guitar work that can take you from old-timey acoustic blues sounds, screaming steel solos, bung ballads, haunting ambient improvisation, and the odd choice Australian cover.

Sometimes sober listeners have variously described his original compositions as bung blues, dirty swamp rock, and even psychedelic bluegrass. KIER STEVENS is a regular fixture on the Melbourne music scene writing and performing with blues band DOGGEREL, acoustic folk-noir duo COME HEAVY SLEEP, nasty spacejazz improvisors THICKEN, and more!
