Mother and Baby is a giant puppet show about the transformative relationship between a mother and her very large, amphibious baby. Across three sunset evenings, the pair will set sail on Carlton Gardens’ westernmost lake where they will immerse you in a theatrical puppetry experience set against an iconic Melbourne backdrop. You’ll be drawn into this larger than life pairing of endearingly sweet and familiar faces, but all is not what it seems when the couple become discombobulated. This work by sausage woman (Olivia Floate) in collaboration with Liam Berg - through an experimental reworking of puppetry, dance, physical theatre, and sound - takes your assumptions of gender roles and representation and pulls them apart.

Mother and Baby is a ticketless event welcoming those willing and open to challenging and unconventional themes and imagery; though G-rated and child friendly, the show might incite unsettling thoughts.

Presented as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival 2025 and supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Grants.
