Monash University’s Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance are passionate supporters of Australian music, gender diversity, and jazz and improvisation. We are proud to sponsor the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival, and thrilled to have our students perform, listen, and learn through the fantastic artists and events featured within the festival.
This concert will feature student ensembles performing two sets of music, led by innovative composer and bassist Tamara Murphy.

Tamara Murphy
Tamara Murphy is a bassist, composer, and educator based in Melbourne, Australia. A leading voice in the Australian jazz and contemporary music scene, she has released over 10 albums as a leader or co-leader and appears on more than 30 recordings by other artists.
Tamara has toured extensively around the world, performing in Japan, China, Europe, the UK, New York, and across Australia. Her music blends lyrical sensitivity with rhythmic drive, reflecting her deep commitment to both composition and improvisation.
Currently, Tamara performs with artists including Kate Miller-Heidke, Ali McGregor, Harry Angus, and Clio Renner.
