Kalachakra (The Wheel of Time) is a new ensemble led by composer and multi-instrumentalist Adrian Sherriff, exploring cycles of rhythm, melody, and transformation through a transcultural lens. Drawing inspiration from jazz, Indian and Japanese classical forms, and contemporary improvisation, the group creates intricate sound worlds that balance structure and spontaneity. Special guest Miyama Tokita- McQueen is a pioneering Tokyo-based koto and bass koto performer whose artistry fuses Japanese tradition with contemporary expression. Renowned for her freedom, depth, and innovative collaborations, she has worked with ensembles including the Vancouver Intercultural Orchestra, Australian Art Orchestra, and Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. For this debut, Sherriff is joined by an extraordinary line- up: Peggy Lee (cello), Rohan Dasika (double bass), and Jay Dabgar (tabla), with Tokita-McQueen bringing her distinctive voice to Kalachakra’s transcultural vision—where East meets West, tradition meets innovation, and time itself becomes music.
