Matilda’s forthcoming debut single 𝘓𝘢𝘺 𝘋𝘰𝘸𝘯 is to be launched on Friday the 16th of July, upstairs at Colour Club, Carlton. Joining Matilda and her Band is bodies and Georgia Knight.

Growing up on the north coast of NSW, Matilda was engulfed by surf rock, folk, soul, and 80s ballads under the influence of her parents. Likened to Pattie Smith and PJ Harvey, and inspired by the truths told by Dolly Parton, Matilda doesn’t shy away from telling a story -- whether it’s about death, drugs, heartbreak, or love. Backed by a simple three-piece band there’s no frills, and there doesn’t need to be. The vulnerability Matilda brings in the music and lyrics is enough. Moving between twangy country-tinged folk music and distorted rock and roll, Matilda leads the band, guitar in arm.

During 2020’s covid-induced lockdown, Matilda was gifted an old beat-up Yamaha acoustic guitar. Based on poetry deciphered from stacks of old notebooks and the few chords she knew at the time, 𝘓𝘢𝘺 𝘋𝘰𝘸𝘯 was borne.

Experimental, electronic, acoustic, elegiac and ever-enchanting. Alongside bodies and Matilda is a special solo performance from Georgia Knight (https://georgiaknight.bandcamp.com/), with her meditative and grungy folk-rock.
