Matildaโs forthcoming debut single ๐๐ข๐บ ๐๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฏ is to be launched on Friday the 16th of July, upstairs at Colour Club, Carlton. Joining Matilda and her Band is bodies and Georgia Knight.
Growing up on the north coast of NSW, Matilda was engulfed by surf rock, folk, soul, and 80s ballads under the influence of her parents. Likened to Pattie Smith and PJ Harvey, and inspired by the truths told by Dolly Parton, Matilda doesnโt shy away from telling a story -- whether itโs about death, drugs, heartbreak, or love. Backed by a simple three-piece band thereโs no frills, and there doesnโt need to be. The vulnerability Matilda brings in the music and lyrics is enough. Moving between twangy country-tinged folk music and distorted rock and roll, Matilda leads the band, guitar in arm.
During 2020โs covid-induced lockdown, Matilda was gifted an old beat-up Yamaha acoustic guitar. Based on poetry deciphered from stacks of old notebooks and the few chords she knew at the time, ๐๐ข๐บ ๐๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฏ was borne.
In Support is three-piece outfit, bodies (https://b-odies.bandcamp.com/music) - who have developed a cult following over the past four years. Experimental, electronic, acoustic, elegiac and ever-enchanting. Alongside bodies and Matilda is a special solo performance from Georgia Knight (https://georgiaknight.bandcamp.com/), with her meditative and grungy folk-rock.
