Matahari means ‘the sun’ in Indonesian and Matahara is the project of Marissa Yudinar (she/her), a Naarm via Jakarta producer, songwriter and vocalist. Just like the sun, the 22-year-old artist makes distinctive and forward-thinking bedroom pop to give light and warmth to everyone around her, drawing particular inspiration from alternative pop and dance/electronic music.

Matahara returns with her single ‘Side’, released on the new independent record label, dolphin love. ‘Side’ can be described as “simple yet beautiful”, with its lyrical elements exploring youthful enthusiasm and hope for new beginnings. It’s a song about self-rediscovery and celebration of life.

In 2021, Matahara released her debut EP 'Triple Alliteration' to strong support from triple j, triple j Unearthed, local publications and community radio. The 4-track EP recorded in bedrooms across Naarm, showcases Matahara’s expressive songwriting alongside innovative production that blends multiple genres in a way that's truly unique to Matahara. She was named FBi Radio’s Independent Artist of the Week and won triple j Unearthed’s Collab Comp, earning the opportunity to write with Nick Littlemore of PNAU and Empire of the Sun.

Matahara will celebrate the launch of ‘Side’ on Thursday October 27th at Colour Club, performing live with her full band. She’s thrilled to be joined by very special guests, Komang and Turbo Chook.
