Lomond Acoustica's 10th Birthday Celebration
Lomond Acoustica is an extension of a regular contemporary music show which has been running for over 33 years.
10 years ago we moved to what was probably its rightful place at The Lomond Hotel.
In that period, we have presented top lined artists from all over Australia and overseas giving them an intimate experience to perform their craft.
To celebrate our milestone at The Lomond we are presenting 6 of the favourite artists who have performed there over that period of time.
Michael Waugh
Michael Waugh is a revered songwriter, a compelling live performer and an extraordinary storyteller. Among his admirers are Josh Cunningham from The Waifs, iconic singer-songwriter Eric Bogle and alt. country luminary Shane Nicholson. Michael has been the recipient of many awards including Folk and Roots Album of the Year (Music Victoria Awards), Songs of Peace and Tolerance award (Port Fairy Folk Festival) and Heritage Song of the Year (Golden Guitar Awards). His forthcoming album ‘Beauty & Truth’ paints vivid, joyous, funny and loving pictures of growing up queer in rural Australia.
Jimi Hocking
Jimi Hocking is a songwriter, singer and guitarist of the highest calibre, the electric love child of T-Bone Walker, BB King and Jimi Hendrix. He struts the stage with his band, playing his ‘showy’ guitar style while pulling all the classic stunts ... behind the head ... the duck walk ... even the splits!
Jimi is in his element live on stage, whether it be a small cafe or a massive festival. His combination of banter and story-telling, wailing guitar and mandolin with superb songwriting and performance makes Jimi one of the 'must-see' acts in blues today.
Kris Mizzi
Winner of 2017 Troubadour Award as well as 2021 Folk Alliance 'Australian Solo Artist of the Year', Melbourne Singer/Songwriter Kris Mizzi is making waves throughout the Folk circuit across the country.
More than just a few have said that ‘Mizzi's songs take them to a place they'd forgotten in themselves". Well crafted stories which draw hopeful and heartwarming wisdoms found in the people and places we experience everyday.
With a 'strong and gentle' voice, and an art for weaving beauty and truth into the words of each song, Kris Mizzi reaches the hearts of his audiences with performances that are joyful, uplifting, confronting, spiritual, comedic and vulnerable all at once.
He has been described by other musicians as having 'one of Australian Folk Musics finest voices' leaving listeners feeling as though they have experienced something truly special. His current performances with multi-instrumentalist Christian Meyer have had audiences on their feet.
Kavisha Mazzella AM

Combine this prowess with the voice of an angel and you have the experience of a Kavisha concert. Nick Charles
Known internationally as “Australia’s virtuoso of acoustic roots and blues” Nick’s recordings and performances have won every award and accolade this country has to offer including Port Fairy Folk Festival Artist of the Year and The AGE Blues album of the year.
He’s toured the US 13 times performing more than 300 shows there. His latest album “Guitar Music” has a typically broad palette of influences and includes wonderful renditions of acoustic guitar classics from country fingerpicking and a nod to his country blues heroes.
Mandy Connell Trio
Connell’s arresting presence is what stands out. Singer and guitarist, she is popular for her writing, and loved for her stagecraft, but it’s her breadth of passion for the broader ‘folk’ genre which makes her unusual in Australia. A songwriter with a guitar, Connell has an edge more reminiscent of Margaret Roadknight or Norma Waterson than of Kate Bush or Joni Mitchell. Having worked with a well-known five piece ‘traditional’ band (Stray Hens) reworking contemporary and trad folk ballads, Connell is at home with big production, but continues to work solo or with simple lineups of bass and drums or bass and lead guitar, presenting her own work locally and Internationally with producers in Melbourne (Luke Plumb, Myles Mumford) and the UK. Since 2017, Connell has hosted a YouTube series called An Otherwise Quiet Room- drawing on interviews and duets in social spaces - shops and bars- and has showcased Sally Dastey, Liz Stringer, Gallie, Mike Compton (Soggy Bottom Boys), and more. Due to release new music in 2020 produced by Tom Wright (Yellow Arch Studios, Martin Simpson, Nancy Kerr), Connell has loved independent and live music since early childhood in the 80’s, following artists like Kate Rusby, Andy Irvine, Kristina Olsen, Enda Kenny, Chris Wilson, Cindi Boste, Alistair Hulett, Kavisha Mazzella…. With a passion for soft ballads offset by a love of blues and dance music. Her stage patter and interests are varied, and as an artist she is hard to place within a genre other than that nebulous ‘Folk’ label…. Connell’s career is as diverse as her show is dynamic.
