kol isha is the new artistic incarnation of Miriam Waks—an Australian-born, New York-based singer, songwriter, music producer, and poet who sings in 18 languages.

Her songs explore issues close to her heart, including spirituality, mythology, feminism, sex, technology, religion, and climate change. kol isha’s music is boldly genre-defying, drawing on an expansive palette that includes folk, EDM, pop, classical, world, experimental, blues, rap, spiritual, and new-age influences.

Hebrew for “a woman’s voice,” kol isha was chosen as a symbol of rebirth. The name represents both a statement and a celebration: the discovery of her true voice as an artist and as a woman. It simultaneously honours her Jewish heritage while critically engaging with aspects of its politics, practices, and traditions.

kol isha presents her name in lowercase as a nod to the great thinker, feminist, and activist bell hooks, and as a way of diminishing egoic identity—an influence shaped by her engagement with Buddhist practices and philosophy.

kol isha’s live performances merge electronic production with acoustic instrumentation, dynamic vocals, and full-bodied movement, unfolding as immersive musical Ceremony.
