Jessie Monk Quartet invite you for a night of collaborative compositions and experimental folk.

Following the release of her sophomore album Mis O’ The Mountains — nominated for AFMA’s Contemporary Folk Album of the Year — Jessie and her collaborators Arlon Faria (piano) and Aidan Ryan (electric guitar) have been traversing new creative planes, exploring landscapes of devotional and experimental jazz/folk fusion.

Join them for their first presentation of these swirling, spirallic new works — braided with compositions from Mis O’ The Mountains, earlier releases, and new pieces from Arlon and Aidan.

The quartet, featuring Claire Aboulegis (double bass), gather under a new moon, as the length of day and night becomes almost equal — to praise the summer and honour the turning of the wheel of time — in their debut performance at Naarm’s iconic Jazz Lab.

Bio

Jessie Monk is an Australian artist based between Melbourne/Naarm and Berlin. She weaves new stories with old threads, inspired by ancient myth, Celtic and Appalachian folk traditions, and experimental art forms such as butoh and neu-music.

With her band, Jessie creates an atmosphere of tangible yet experimental folklore, enchanting audiences with soaring and mystical compositions filled with poetry, symbolism, dreams, and humanity.

Her sound recalls Joni Mitchell, Sam Amidon, and Anna Mieke, while her lyrics draw inspiration from Rilke and Ovid.

Also an actress and dancer, Jessie has performed in major musicals including the Australian premiere of David Bowie’s Lazarus and the Australian tour of Anaïs Mitchell’s Hadestown.

In 2023, she released her debut LP Boundless Folk, and in 2025, her sophomore concept album Mis O’ The Mountains — inspired by the myth of an ancient Celtic goddess named Mis — both recorded at Funkhaus Studio in Berlin.

Jessie has toured across Europe and Australia, headlining and supporting artists like Ocie Elliot and Rachel Sermanni, and collaborating with award-winning jazz musicians Fabiana Striffler, Max Andrzejewski, Paul Santner, and Conor Cunningham.
