After a year spent touring the country with Hunters & Collectors, releasing his wonderful new electronica record Lightheavyweight 2; and wowing crowds with his own brilliant album launch and Epic Brass shows, Jack Howard will be hitting the Espy Basement on Friday April 14th. Joined by his awesome band of Long Lost Brothers and Sisters, Jack’s tunes range from from the dark and moody to driving disco and powerful rock. The band is a force to be reckoned with. Jack has invited a great new up-and-coming local band, Wake In Fright, as guests on the night. They supported Jack at his recent George Lane show and punters were blown away by the band’s maturity and musicality.
Wake In Fright is a young Melbourne band inspired by a variety of old and modern music. The band started by jamming on a mix of ideas influenced by new wave music, blues, trip hop, rock and jazz. Eventually turning jam sessions into proper songs, the band began to develop a wide-ranging and powerful style all its own. The band stars George Miller on guitar and vocals, Ari Guthrie on guitar, Joe Nossal on synth, keys and trumpet, Paddy Walter on drums and Henry Rawling on bass.

Spending the last year honing their skills, Des Cortez has become a force to be reckoned with. Comprising of high school friends Devlin (drums), Paddy (bass), and Sam (guitar/vocals), the trio developed their unique hazy indie sound in the summer after their year 12, cumulating in the release of their debut EP ‘Burn After Listening’ in 2021 that launched them into the Melbourne scene.
Since then, Des Cortez have taken the city by storm, releasing a string of beloved singles and regularly playing in front of huge crowds, including a recent sold-out launch in the Espy’s Gershwin room. The band also frequently support larger acts, including Agung Mango, Summer Thieves, South Summit and The Rions.
After tirelessly working on their newest single, the band is thrilled to be launching ‘UFO’ back in the Gershwin Room.
Joining them will be Jacob Fitzgerald, Radio Free Alice and The Groundswell. To keep the night going Flyte 44 will be spinning late into the evening. Get your tickets while you can, it’s sure to be a big one!
