Holy Moses Heartache are not shy in telling themselves how great they think they are. That's exactly how you should feel when you get to hang out with people you enjoy and write and play the sort of music you'd be happy to listen to. With a cult-like following that extends just slightly beyond their immediate families, Holy Moses Heartache have been wowing both themselves and audiences with their blend of soulful country-funk-folk-swamp-rock-rhythm-n-blues for over a decade, and look forward to bringing their good times and good looks to the stage at the Brunswick Artists' Bar. Come on down and celebrate Xmas early with us (we'll even give the first five people dressed as Santa or elves or reindeers a free vinyl album each).

Tarcutta — Justin Wheelahan, Pete Barrett and Justin Buckley — are set to release their long-awaited second album, Rain In Space, later this year. Recorded live to tape by Paul Maybury at A Secret Location Sound Recorders in Fairfield, the instrumental trio take listeners on a journey to the outer reaches of analogue space rock and bastard jazz, weaving Hammond, Farfisa, electric guitar, piano and drums with otherworldly analogue tones of Wurlitzer electric piano.
Named after the truck stop town halfway between Sydney and Melbourne where Justin Buckley grew up, Tarcutta formed in Melbourne in the summer of 2004. Buckley (guitar) and Wheelahan (Hammond organ) had been playing together since schooldays when they were joined by Barrett (drums). Since then Tarcutta has appeared on bills with great Melbourne bands including High Pass Filter, Because of Ghosts and Deloris.
With a combined age of more than 500 years, Tarcutta’s vintage instruments are proudly analogue. Replete with pedals, the centrepiece is Wheelahan’s Model K Hammond organ. Justin’s Hammond — on coasters so it’s always ready to play live at gigs — is driven through three speakers: two rotating Leslies, including a 122 valve and a 910 transistor, and a Hammond PR40 stationary valve speaker cabinet. Buckley’s electric guitar and Wurlitzer EP 200a electric piano is played through a 1960s Fender Reverb amp.
The combination of warm valve amps, multiple rotating speakers and Wheelahan’s unique and experimental approach to playing the Hammond’s tone bars produces an audio-sensory experience that is felt by audiences as much as it is heard. Sure, it’s Hammond organ, but like you’ve never experienced it before.
