Heartaches and Hangovers is a regular honky tonk afternoon at the Labour in Vain on the first Sunday of every month. Unique to this afternoon is the supreme pairing of community radio legends Denise Hylands (Twang -Triple R FM, Saturdays 2pm -4pm) with Dave Heard (Acid Country- PBS FM, Thursdays 3pm - 5pm) as resident DJs going back to back playing your favourite country tunes including a few by the gig’s namesake George Jones.

Cold Heart

Rocking Hillbilly Twangsters Cold Heart are based on an old school stripped back country rockabilly outfit. Three members only, one on vocals and acoustic guitar, one on the electric Gretsch guitar and another on double bass, that’s it. There are no drums, but the rhythmic click and slapping of the double bass will make you think there is. If you are thinking vintage Johnny Cash, Wayne Hancock, Faron Young, Johnny Horton and Hank Williams you’ll be right at home. With Cold Heart you’ll get a dose of rockabilly, country and original songs all played in the correct style. All the members of Cold Heart are stalwarts of the inner city country and Melbourne roots music scene and play regular gigs around town when not on the job with Cold Heart. Comprising of members from The Detonators, Gatorbait, The Roadsters and The Flat Foot Shakers they have plenty of K’s on their cowboy boots and under their western belts. So sit back grab a beer, but don’t cry into it, or get up and dance the choice is yours.
