The theme is: Ride or Dies: Stories of Female Friendship

Grab your bestie and join us as we dive into the stories of female friendship — the ups, the downs, the laughs, and the tears. These are the women who stand by us through it all. World Friendship Day is the perfect excuse to celebrate the real “ride or dies” who make life sweeter.

Team 20s: Iris Warren is a recent graduate from WAAPA’s bachelor of Performance making. Iris is an emerging playwright and theatre maker, who focuses of feminist storytelling and wants to bring underrepresented stories to the stage.

Team 30s: Dr Megan Burslem is a radio and TV host, violist and musicologist best known for hosting Classic Breakfast on ABC Classic and Front Row with Megan Burslem, Australia Day Live and the Classic 100 in Concert on ABC TV. Megan is a country kid from Lakes Entrance with a PhD in ethnomusicology and deep love of all music, but especially classical. She makes music conversations accessible, funny, and real both on screen and on stage. And she's pretty damn good at quoting 90s action films too. 

Team 40s: Candy Bowers is a multi-award-winning writer/performer/director and NIDA graduate who has created outstanding work for the stage, page and screen. Career highlights include curating Afrocentric at the Triennial (NGV International), touring MC Platypus & Queen Koala to over 300 schools in Queensland and writing on Aussie animation Happy House (ABC).

Team 50s: Beci Orpin is a Brunswick-based multidisciplinary artist, designer and author known for her signature use of colour, shape and optimism. She has collaborated with Apple, Google and The Australian Ballet, and led workshops at NGV, Craft Victoria and Melbourne Design Week. Beci has authored and illustrated 11 books, and in 2024 created her largest installation to date—a giant soft toy rabbit commissioned by the Immigration Museum.

Team 60s: Sara Timms is a storyteller who enjoys sharing stories about her many journeys, her love of cooking vegetarian food and the many small pleasures of life. Sara is a schoolteacher working in Special schools where she has a number of different roles that focus on student, staff and community welfare. Sara also practices and teaches yoga for her spirit.

Team 70s Rosemary Johns is a playwright, actor and director passionate about creating new Australian work. Her plays “Carrying Shoes into the Unknown”, “Stray” and “As Told by the Boys Who Fed Me Apples” published by Currency Press, have featured on the VCE syllabus. Upcoming stage roles include “Are you There” (Theatre Works).

Generation Women is an award-winning cross-generational storytelling night founded in New York in 2017, Sydney in 2018, and Melbourne in 2020. Each month, six women of note read an original piece on a theme. Of those women, one is in her 20s, her 30s, her 40s, her 50s, her 60s, and her 70s+.
