Gareth Skinner is a Melbourne musician, composer and cellist who overlaps the dividing line between innovative musicianship and contemporary song writing. When playing solo live, he uses real time loops to create brutalist pop that is both intimate and cavernous. Gareth’s music has lingering echoes of post-punk atmospherics combined with historically left-of-center musical traditions.
Skinner has recorded and performed with a diverse range of acclaimed artists, from the psychedelic rock stylings of indie legends The Sand Pebbles, UK based gothic blues rock artist Suzie Stapleton, Sydney based indie folk-pop chanteuse Catherine Traicos, folk-rock heroes The Holy Sea, Nick Batterham and more. Skinner’s music has also appeared on feature films including Boytown and Crackerjack, short films and television. He has also been in the bands The Ergot Derivative, bzark and Disaster Plan.
