Southside Sounds Live proudly present the first ever Southside Summer Sizzler bringing more of the best in local alt-country and Americana to the bay side – this time featuring Freya-Josephine Hollick with full Band and the Smith & Western Jury, ably supported by Norwood.
Freya-Josephine Hollick has been a leading artist in the new country renaissance and her live performances and stories on stage are beyond captivating. Freya has recorded with Lucinda Williams’ renowned band Buick 6 and guitarist Greg Leisz (known for working with Beck, Eric Clapton, Aaron Neville, Sheryl Crow etc) and at famed Joshua Tree desert studio Rancho De La Luna, run by Eagles of Death Metal guitarist, Dave Catching. Her sound is both classic and contemporary, saturated with the sounds of desert rock and cosmic country, inspired by the likes of Ann Peebles, Allen Toussaint and Gene Clark. Freya’s band features the finest of the local scene to deliver a quality of sound to outgun the Buick 6 – this will be a performance not to be missed.
The Smith & Western Jury are alt-country gems whose debut Hotel Texas received rave reviews. The album takes listeners on a captivating journey through tales of pain, love, and loss, and is an example of the true quality of Australia’s alt-country scene. The band’s live performances take the golden twang, iconic guitar lines, and killer vocal of the recordings to another level – the Smith and Western Jury roll like a runaway freight train on stage.
Support on the night will be Norwood, who have the ability to silence a crowd with their beautiful lyrics and vocal harmonies crafted through a shared love of artists like Neil Young, Gillian Welch and The Dead Tongues.
