FLOOT BIRD marks Melbourne-born bassist and composer Paddy Fitzgerald’s return home to launch his debut album on DOX Records Amsterdam. Developed and recorded in Europe with a group of leading improvisers, the project blends jazz, live electronics, and Australian bird recordings in a rhythmically driven, groove-focused setting.

The album took shape over four intensive days of recording, followed by post-production with Berlin producer Petter Eldh. Using sampling, looping and digital editing, they transformed the raw material into something detailed, dynamic and full of momentum. A central thread of the music comes from bird calls recorded by Paddy’s father in regional New South Wales, which act as both rhythmic and harmonic foundations throughout the album.

For this Melbourne launch, Paddy presents FLOOT BIRD with a new Australian lineup, bringing home the electronic concepts, odd-time grooves and improvisational sensibilities he has cultivated in Europe—returning them to the landscape that first sparked the project.
