Esstee Big Band is Melbourne’s hardest-swinging 18-piece jazz ensemble. Synonymous with toe-tapping, swing dancing good times, Esstee Big Band performs the best of the classic big band vocal repertoire, as well as the most exciting instrumentals and original compositions in town. Featuring fabulous singers Margot Leighton and Zac Teichmann, Esstee has played around Melbourne for the past 15 years, including regular performances at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival, The Spotted Mallard, The Penny Black, Manchester Lane, Stonnington Jazz and many more. If you like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Harry Connick Jr, Nina Simone, Michael Buble or even a bit of Basie, Mingus or Ellington, then Esstee Big Band is the band for you!
The Bird Conference are a quintet exploring the depths of the jazz tradition; unafraid to explore any corner the idiom has to offer. Pieces range from hard swinging numbers reminiscent of the Cannonball Adderley quintet, to free improvisation, to highly arranged pieces exploring harmony and odd time grooves. Join the group as they present original compositions from all members as well as interpretations of jazz standards.
