Come groove with us at Mamma Chen’s for an eclectic night of sound!

Gecko is a kickass alt-rock trio, blending together fundamentals of punk, rock and jazz to

create their unique sound. Drawing inspiration from their own musical influences and time

studying jazz at Monash University, the band explores each-others’ odd experiences and

chaotic energy in their songwriting and blends punky and velvety vocals alongside punchy

riffs and catchy melodies. Beneath their sometimes intense and always captivating

performances, Gecko is, beneath it all, quirky and fun.

Rooted in the rich rhythms of the African continent and uplifted by global grooves, Sub Sol

bring a powerful fusion of afrobeat, highlife, jazz and soul to every stage they step on. Led by

the nigerian-born vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Tobi, the group channels a timeless

energy through polyrhythmic percussion, funky basslines and groovy melodies that ignite

dance floors and uplifts the spirit.

Dërty Bërd is a Naarm-based, soulful/funky-reggae syndicate composed of mellifluous

vocalists, earthy-toned brass players and a rhythm section that thrives on a dance-floor

atmosphere. Dërty Bërd is an eight-piece collective that borrows elements from afro-beat, ska,

funk, soul and jazz and weaves them into one, attaining a sound akin to a love-child of Fat

Freddy’s Drop, The Shaolin Afronauts, Jorja Smith and The Fearless Flyers.

Mamma Chen’s acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and the Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation, the true owners of the land that we live and operate on. We would like to pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
