This intriguing double bill combines two very different duos (both of which feature the vibraphone).

DeepJade DUO:

Sydney-based Daryl Pratt (vibraphone) and Jonathan Dimond (electric bass) enjoy a musical association spanning decades. The DeepJade Duo is a new project which showcases their virtuosity in a duo setting. In this inaugural concert, they will premiere new compositions and re-workings of some of Chick Corea’s renowned Children’s Songs, inspired by Corea’s collaboration with vibraphonist Gary Burton. DeepJade Duo takes advantage of the intimate instrumentation and elegant compositional approaches to explore a duologue that features improvisation in a conversational manner. Following on from this theme, the duo will perform Dimond’s new suite Songs for Children, composed especially for the duo.

CARBONARA/SARAGOSSI:

Sofia Carbonara and Andrew Saragossi find extremes within, and shared timbres between, vibraphone and saxophones. With a passion for the unorthodox, Saragossi has established himself as a chameleon with a wind instrument – not bound by genre or personal taste, but by a relentless search for deeper musical meaning. Carbonara is a percussionist and performance maker who previously lived in Ann Arbor and Detroit, Michigan before locating here as the Australian Art Orchestra 23/24 Pathfinder Associate Artist, and to pursue graduate research in Jazz and Improvisation at the University of Melbourne.
