Danika Smith performs a raw, timeless style of folk music with undertones of jazz and soul. She is known for her tender topics, honey stick melodies and charismatic satire. But something's shifting. It's 2020, where women in music are being recognized and supported, so she feels it's time to get experimental. Folk is heaven, no doubt, but curiosity, desire and the inner groove has unavoidably begun Danika Smith's metamorphosis.

Since her first critically acclaimed single 'Suit of Armour', Danika has garnered widespread attention, following up with an exciting new release in 2020 'Sweet Mellow-D', premiered on Gilles Peterson BBC6. Gearing up towards her full album release, Danika will perform a special performance with her new band!

Maple Glider’s striking emotionality is at the centre of her performance, leaning into an intimacy that is achieved by way of deeply personal reflections and velvety melodic compositions.

The Naarm/Melbourne-based songwriter’s debut single “As Tradition” was first spun by Bob Boilen on NPR’s ‘All Songs Considered’ and since its release in September 2020, Maple Glider’s domestic label Pieater have joined forces with beloved indie imprint Partisan Records (Laura Marling, Fela Kuti, Cigarettes After Sex, Fontaines D.C.) to release her music to the rest of the world. Drawing on the sombre styles of folk contemporaries with a stark tenderness and introspection, her second single “Good Thing” (released March 2021) has been met with a glowing reception. Matt Wilkinson on Apple Music 1, simply stated it “floored me”.
