Can critical comedy be the scalpel that slices through the viscera of our hypocritical humanity to expose the universal truths of our existence? Who would find that amusing, and crucially, who would pay money to see that?
Presiding over the debate is Melbourne's most loved anarchist and social justice campaigner Dr Joseph Toscano. Dr Toscano (who is also a physician) is the founder of numerous activist groups, most recently the PIBCI, Public Interests Before Corporate Interests. In addition to hosting the weekly Radical Australia program on 3CR, Dr Toscano is a spokesperson for the Anarchist Media Institute.
Awkward Giraffe's Sofie Prints leads the Affirmative team with her eternal optimism while Kieran Butler, champion of the #quithope campaign, heads the Negative team with evidence that it's not just Australia but also the whole world that is doomed.
Tickets are $10 per day at the door (or free for those who register online)
The comedy debate is part of the Festival of Critical Comedy presented by Awkward Giraffe.
