Chelsea Wilson brings her soul-jazz sound to The Jazz Lab. Described as a modern day ‘renaissance woman’ (Blue in Green UK), and a ‘soul-jazz powerhouse’ (Beat Magazine), she is an accomplished songwriter, vocalist, broadcaster and producer. An internationally acclaimed live act, she has performed at Glastonbury Festival UK, Byron Bay Bluesfest, London Jazz Cafe and recently appeared at Adelaide Jazz Festival. She has worked with artists including Paul Grabowksy, Andrea Keller and Tamara Murphy and supported acts such as Tina Arena, Macy Gray and Neneh Cherry. Appearing at the Jazz Lab with an incredible trio featuring Jake Mason on organ/piano, Ivan Choi on drums and Anthony Liddel on bass, prepare to hear soulful originals and deep cuts from the vanguard and prestige era of jazz.
Chelsea’s discography includes collaborations with international labels in the UK, Brasil and Europe. Her debut album “I Hope You’ll Be Very Unhappy Without Me” was lauded #2 Album of the Year on ABC Radio National and nominated for Best Soul Album at The Age Music Victoria Awards. Her second album `Chasing Gold’, garnered a nomination for the prestigious Australian Music Prize. Most recently, she produced ‘Feel Good’ by Women of Soul, the first album in Australia to be 100% composed, performed and produced by an all-female team. The album is currently nominated for the AIR Award for Best Soul R’n’B Album of 2023.
Not just a vocalist, Chelsea is renowned for her work behind the scenes as a producer and broadcaster. A Graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Chelsea is the former Artistic Director of the Stonnington Jazz and Brunswick Music Festivals. In 2021 she was the Artistic Associate of Melbourne International Jazz Festival Congress and for five years was a Board Director of Music Victoria. Perhaps she is most known though for her much-loved PBS radio program “Jazz Got Soul” which she produced for six years. Currently she produces and presents the Control Podcast. In 2023 Chelsea was nominated for the Creative Leadership Award at the 2023 Australian Women in Music Awards.
