Father-Son duo Family Affair - Charlie & Louie Marshall are joined by Melbourne-based Canadian singer songwriter Meghan Maike for a laid back, soulful Saturday afternoon at Coburg RSL from 3 to 5pm

Charlie Marshall is a singer songwriter from Melbourne, Australia who has been an important part of the scene in this great music city since the 1980s. He is best known for his band the Body Electric - which featured Warren Ellis and Jim White from the Dirty Three in it’s stellar lineup along with members of Beasts Of Bourbon and the Avalanches - and the legendary post punk blues of Harem Scarem.

Family Affair is the father-son partnership of Charlie and jazz improvising multi-instrumentalist Louie Marshall. This new collaboration couples Charlie’s characteristic soulful vocals, astute lyrics and pure feel rhythm guitar with Louie’s instinctive musical touch and improvisation on keyboards, vocals and tenor sax drawing inspiration from a range of genres - soul, blues, folk, punk, indie and jazz. Family Affair perform songs from every album of Charlie’s extensive back catalogue with a free wheeling spirit, pulsing groove and intuitive connection between two like-minded musical souls. Forget predictable and playing by rote, expect innate understanding and musical symbiosis.

Meghan Maike - In true country tradition, this Canadian singer-songwriter has found inspiration on the road – from Montreal to Mississippi, and now Melbourne.

Born into folk and honed in country, Maike’s influences (from the greats; Emmylou, Gram, Neil, Lucinda, to indie heroes, The Sadies) spurred her to process the world through songwriting. Sights, sounds, places, experiences, textures, and seasons, find their way to the page.

From childhood years in a folk community on Canada’s west coast, Maike was drawn to the buzzing music scene of Montreal – a move meant for a year that lasted a decade, and made a home for life…until the next calling, and it was no mistake that Maike then landed in the vibrant musical tapestry that is Melbourne.

Circumstance brought Maike to live in Clarksdale, Mississippi, for seven years. With some time on her hands, and absorbing the magnetic musical energy of the delta, she kept on writing. This album is a faithful representation of time and place, and the relationship with the delta is ongoing.

Settled back into Melbourne, she’s assembled a stellar band of musicians to lend the songs new light and released the album Dead Horse Creek
