Backwater plays traditional bluegrass in the good old mountain style, featuring Rob Lewis on guitar and vocals (Rob has played bluegrass around Melbourne since 1975 and is something of a legend in his own mind), Peter Somerville on banjo and vocals (Peter’s been around almost as long as Rob and has toured with Paul Kelly, Gerry Hale’s Uncle Bill and currently plays in several other bands), Mark Pottenger on mandolin and vocals (Mark is a survivor of many musical adventures and currently plays with Nine Mile Creek, the Praire Kings and Dave Diprose & Hillbilly Radio) and finally Maxine Sutcliffe on double  bass and fiddle and even some vocals (Max is a graduate of Queensland Conservatorium of Music and currently plays in several Melbourne bands including Front Porch, the Praire Kings and The Humbucking Pickups)

Backwater will get your feet tapping one minute and hand out tissues during tear jerking tales of hillbiliy tradgedy the next

Supporting Backwater is John Boothroyd who is a fine old time banjo master and a fine guitarist and singer. He has, almost single handedly, kept old time American music alive over the last 40 years with his Carter Family material and the various brother duet acts famous before Elvis came along.
