The Crystal Ship are a wily clique of miscellaneous mavericks comprised of Anant Caprihan (Vocals), Miles Rothe (Guitar), Nic Durant (Bass) and Ned Fillingham (Drums). Like a psychedelic fever dream, they capriciously stumble betweenmoments of mystical, Carnatic, ceremonial wistfulness to raucous, abandonmoments of triumphant incorrigibility. On their journey towards an inevitable zenith,The Crystal Ship are currently hurtling through their Genesis phase like a wayward friend seeking neither forgiveness nor permission.
Alchemically combining their respective influences of Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, and The Beatles, they sound like a potion of equal partsnostalgic mythical rock and future cosmic psychedelia all at once. Anant’s vocal stylings sound like the love child of Jim Morrison and Jeff Buckley. He seamlessly weaves together intricate nuanced melodies, guttural primal calls, and haunting Hindi raga musings to conjure a focal point of spellbinding intrigue. Miles on guitar creates a soundscape of vast proportions effortlessly shifting between lighting-fastriffs to wailing lead lines. Nic on bass is a symphony unto himself of complex notations. He seamlessly intertwines his whole own bass dimension into the fabric of the band. Ned on drums turns rhythms into melodies as the heartbeat of the band with a style that ranges from intricate tonal pitter-patter to bombastic thunderous recklessness.
In November The Crystal Ship set up shop for a run of packed shows at the infamous Cherry Bar for an electrifying residency. Crescendoing over the 4 Wednesdays in November, they finished with a wild tempest of a show that left many wistfully wondering when they would see the boys again......
Again will be the 8th of December when they grace the stage at FederationSquare as one of the feature bands for the Garage Band festival, and then againon the 21st of December for an end of year headline show at The Espy Basement.
