Melbourne artist Erica Dunn is acclaimed for her extraordinary skills, working across a range of styles in numerous groups, such as Mod Con and Tropical Fuck Storm. This album may be titled Palm Springs and Friends - featuring collaborations with Steph Hughes (Dick Diver, Boomgates) and Paul Pirie - but it's largely a solo endeavour with strikingly sparse arrangements and minimal instrumentation. The record sounds all the world like an undiscovered folk masterpiece of the '60s or '70s, with a quality of timelessness and immediacy laying in its tapeworn tracks. The lyrics speak on eternal themes: love, loss, lessons of history, and what we learn by staring at the stars and looking within.
