Black Origami is a study in simplicity, complexity and rhythm. Jlin's early interest in the Chicago footwork and juke genres is expanded, with connecting lines drawn to regional dance traditions and hybrid styles from around the world. The album title is highly apt: Jlin's approach to music making is sculptural. Like with origami, endless possibilities await within a single sheet of paper, waiting for the right sequence of folds and imagination. Some of Jlin's tracks emerge with a minimum of folds, others are dazzling in their density.
